Notes on the Hugo awards:[1] The award was rejected by Lester Del Rey because he felt that the award was only given because Judy Lynn Del Rey had recently died. [2] Michael Whelan announced that he would go on a sabbatical for one year. He said he was taking his name out of the running in order to give someone else a chance to win. Mr. Whelan had received the award for 5 consecutive years. [3] This award was not a Hugo. There has been some debate about whether to create an "Origianl Artwork" category. The Worldcon committee for 1990 decided to try the category as a committee award as allowed by the WSFS Constitution. Afterwards, it was decided that an "original artwork" category was not viable and so the matter was dropped. Notes on the Nebulas:[1] Author declined the award. |
